Project Gutenberg

Project Gutenberg is a name you probably keep hearing a lot these days. Yes each one of you, my fellow book worms. Yup, you will be probably be nodding your heads right now thinking, "Are you kidding me girl! Project Gutenberg is actually code name for "absolute freedom" in the land of the book worms. Don't you know girl? "

Project Gutenberg is the single most innovative, extensive, independent, ambitious and most importantly successful project of digitalizing, indexing and making a plethora of books, books,...yup and more books available for FREE to everyone with access to the Web (in the geek land where the national food has been officially declared black coffee.) While Larry Page and Sergey Brin might disagree and be jumping, "Hey? What about Google Book Search?", it seems Google Book Search has not overcome the pesky copyright problems to the extent that Project Gutenberg has achieved so far. Not all the books digitalized in Google Book website are fully accessible, some books go to the extent that one can read 3 or 4 pages!

Project Gutenberg's noble principle of making all the tomes out there fully accessible to the common man without a single dime to pay one day is well on its way of becoming a reality. It is a noble concept and probably even more appreciated by the ever so broke books worms out there, hungry for the written word, starving to be fed but alas only could afford a whiff of the scrumptious smells of a well worked word meal, teasing them, tantalizing those poor souls who haunt with a perpetual yearning gaze at your local book stores.

For the E-book lovers, you can even download for FREE MP3 formats from the Project Gutenberg's web site. Or if you are like me, and love to stare at the monitor for hours, you can download the written formats.

I hope one day in the near future, each and every book will readily available for free, accessible to everyone, whether you a kid in Kenya, or a teenager in the streets of New York.
UNICEF's school in a box program will then be a thing of the past, as One Laptop Per Child project together with these digitalizing books over the web projects such as Project Gutenberg have the potential to completely revolutionize the way knowledge is shared without impedance globally.

Anyway it is just my simple minded opinions that I imposing on my friends :). If there is any part that I might have gotten wrong, I apologize in advance.

However, I really feel that Project Gutenberg is taking great strides towards achieving a truly noble concept.
